Mansour Abubaker, our apprentice production technician, has won the Engineering Award at Barnsley College.

Mansour, who hails from Sudan, has worked for Diamond since arriving in the UK seven years ago. For the last two years, he has studied Manufacturing at the college and completed NVQs in both English and Maths.

Explains Mansour: “I love the academic learning and I thoroughly enjoy the practical parts of my job. I get the chance to apply the skills I’m taught in the classroom in my role at Diamond – I’ve learnt so much over the last few years and would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone wanting to build a career in this industry.

“The team here has supported me every step of the way and my confidence continues to grow every day. I’m one of those lucky people who enjoys coming to work every day!”

Commenting on Mansour’s win, Peter Callahan, director at Diamond Dispersions, said: “I cannot explain how proud we are of Mansour’s achievements. Gentle, honest and eternally enthusiastic, he has made a huge contribution to the business from day one. He is a real asset to Diamond and a very worthy winner of the Engineering Award.”
