South Yorkshire-based ink specialists, Diamond Dispersions, have appointed Dr Vicky Verona as head chemist.
Vicky, who was born and raised in Rotherham and currently lives in the town with her husband and daughter, will head up Diamond’s growing team of inkologists based at the firm’s plant in Darnall, Sheffield.
With a BSc in Chemical Sciences, an exchange year spent at the University of Colorado an MSc in Colour Science from the Scottish College of Textiles and a PhD in ‘Ink Transfer Mechanisms in Flexographic Printing’ from the London College of Printing, Vicky is one of the UK’s growing number of specialist ink chemists.
In addition to her extensive educational background, Vicky has spent over a decade working in industry with global players, Sun Chemical as a technologist, and Vivimed Labs as an applications chemist.
Commenting on her new role, Vicky said: “When I heard about the position at Diamond, I couldn’t believe my luck. I’d given up hope finding a role as an ink chemist with a local ink manufacturer simply because the region has never geographically attracted such businesses.
“There’s a fantastic family-business feel to Diamond and, since the company is still relatively small, my job is very varied. From working as a research & development chemist designing and testing new products, to solving specific technical problems for clients, managing quality control and covering production at the plant, no two days are ever the same.”
Continues Vicky: “Diamond is a highly successful business and I see many opportunities to grow the company and contribute to that success. One of my future tasks will be expand and improve our UV dispersions range. This is a complex but growing area of the global ink industry and I know Diamond can make a profitable mark in this particular sector.”
Concludes Pete Callahan, director at Diamond Dispersions: “With her expert knowledge and experience, Vicky is already proving a very valuable member of our team. Like us, she is passionate about inks and understands the exacting demands and requirements of our clients. I have no doubt that she will be a key player in our pursuit to create the perfect ink.”
